Coupons are a waste of money

Coupons are a complete waste of money. We've all heard (or read) it a million times from people who think that couponing and following the deals has to be an expensive waste of time in pursuit of junk food and baubles. We all know that isn't true.

But I agree with them. Coupons are a waste of money, if you have to spend money on them...

When I first started couponing, I bought the Sunday paper religiously every week to get the coupons for the deals over the next few weeks because that's what all the guides for newbie couponers recommended. But when there started to be deals that should have used the coupons in those inserts I could never find them. At first I thought it must have been my organization system, and that I was just misplacing the best coupons every week somehow, but it wasn't me.

My inserts themselves were just missing the coupons. And when they did have them they were always lower value. The only insert I regularly got any of the good coupons in was the P&G. My redplum and smartsource inserts almost entirely consist of ads for mail order products I don't need. Add that to the fact that I can generally get good, higher value printable coupons online for the same deals, and buying papers for the coupons just doesn't make sense for me.

So you won's see any deals done with insert coupons on my blog. The few that I get just don't make up for what I'd have to spend to get them.
